Last Update: 7:30 a.m. Nov. 7, 2012

With 98 percent of the precincts reporting, Rep. Keith Ellison received 74.27 percent of the vote, re-electing him to a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

***Original Text***

After what turned out to be a contentious and heated race, incumbent Rep. Keith Ellison defeated Republican challenger Chris Fields Tuesday night. This will be Ellison's fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

NBC, ABC and CBS called the race around 10 p.m. with roughly 29 percent of precincts reporting. Ellison was sitting at nearly 65 percent of the vote.

Ellison's victory comes just a few weeks after engaging in a heated debate with Fields at KFAI Radio, where he called Fields a "low-life scumbag" and a liar. While Ellison apologized for his outburst, Patch readers expressed mixed feelings on the incident on a variety of article postings. Ultimately, the incident didn't seem to sway voters.

More election results can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State's website. Patch will update readers with final voting numbers when they become available. Patch will also continue its coverage of local, state and national races in the coming days.

“Elections are over and now it’s time to get back to work,” Ellison said. I agree, Keith has kept me waiting for 355 days.
In 2009 I became homeless and started living out of my car. One day out of the blue Ellison tweets me saying he wants to meet. WOW. It was the first sign of hope that I had felt in 2 years. Keith Ellison has strong ties to my former employer Delta Airlines. One of his top donors was my old union. I knew based on my contract If my case was reviewed Id get my job back with back pay. I already had the judges ruling all I needed was my contract honored. Back then the Delta merger was going on and I fell through the cracks. I felt renewed hope having Keith Ellison reach out to me. I contacted his office as he asked me to do and waited. A few days later his office got back to me saying he was too busy to meet. I tweeted Rep Ellison the info his office gave me. His reply was what his office said was “Not True” and that he just needed to find time. A few days later. He Blocked me. One of the worst things you can do to a homeless person is fuel them with hope and then take it away. Maybe he was too busy. I judge a man by his actions not just his words.

So nice that people can just ignore the fact that he called his opponent a "low life scumbag". Dont they realize that in the debate his true character came out? if the Republican said that you would never hear the end of it and rightfully so. This country is lost.

I would love to see Dunn Brother's come back. The parking is the major problem. But I hope theyRead More don't utilize the idea to eliminate lanes on Lyndale. It is already like driving behind a funeral procession - often as slow as 15-20 miles an hour. It is so annoying.

The fact that the parking lot is hidden makes it appear as though there is little parking, and IRead More think that hurts business there. I think Dunn bros would be awesome but the store is too small for them... The bean roaster would take up 1/2 the store...

That's good advice. Also keep in mind that your reactions to the event probably won't be imitatedRead More while your children are young. But as they grow older, they'll subconsciously remember your reactions and that will greatly influence how they respond to these situations in adulthood. So if you're someone who started swearing at the TV about Muslim terrorists, or you wept for the victims, or you prayed for the souls of the perpetrators, you should expect your reaction to ultimately have far more influence on your child than the discussions mentioned in this article.

Exactly, Chris Mau!!! Kids live what they learn at home. If we treat kids with respect, as well asRead More how we present the facts of life, kids will grow to become empathetic, meaning, they will care and have compassion for the world around them. If they see us cussing out different races, creeds and colors or origins, they will grow up mean, spiteful and cynical. It's all up to US adults people...who's willing to step to the plate and be that example? These children, they are our future....how they grow depends on us.
