Human Rights Commission Names 2013 'Outstanding Citizen' Award Winner

The award will be presented at the June 25 Richfield City Council meeting.

The Richfield Human Rights Commission has named  Phuoc Thi Minh Tran as the 2013 Gene and Mary Jacobsen Outstanding Citizen Award recipient.

The following is the nomination submitted by Amy Dusek:

I am nominating Phuoc Thi Minh Tran for this award because of the tireless community building that she does, supports and is involved with. Phuoc is an Immigrant from Vietnam who, along with husband Thinh, is a Richfield resident and has raised four children here. She is a librarian at Augsburg Park Library and is involved with countless committees and events. She leads a conversation table for Immigrants looking to improve their English; she is active in the Asian American Community planning various Asian themed events around the Twin Cities such as the Moon Festival at the Mall of America. She is a member of the Police Multicultural Advisory Committee who is tasked with working between police and community to build trust and communication with multicultural community members. Other events she in involved with or has been involved with planning are the Unity in the Community event at Veteran’s Park, the Kite Festival happening June 15th at the library, Richfield 4th of July celebration, Heroes & Helpers (formerly Shop with a Cop), Richfield Police & Fire Teen Academy, Cultural training for police officers and on occasion has interpreted for Richfield police. Those are just the activities this author knows of!

Phuoc leads by example. She is welcoming and takes pride in her Richfield Community and her heritage. She never wastes an opportunity to engage folks in events and activities, is a positive role model and without restraint makes connections with people.

Phuoc is an asset to Richfield and her community.
