UPDATED: Garcia Defeats Buzicky in Ward 2 City Council Race

Unofficial results put Edwina Garcia in the soon-to-be vacant seat of Fred Wroge.

It looks like Edwina Garcia will be returning to the Richfield City Council.

According to unofficial results, Garcia took 58.81 percent of the votes Tuesday night defeating former Richfield firefighter, David Buzicky. As of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Secretary of State's website is showing all three Ward 2 precincts' results are in, with Garcia receiving 2,943 votes and Buzicky receiving 2,025.

Garcia first served on the Richfield City Council in the mid-80s as the Ward 3 representative for two terms, before moving on to serve four terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives in the 1990s.

When Garcia announced her candidacy in May, she said her priorities would be furthering the development/redevelopment happening in the city and housing.

“Our city needs to promote and market the opportunities for development in Richfield," Garcia said in a campaign press release. “We need to be smart about how we create new housing choices. Richfield is a community of inclusion, but we also want to maintain the livability for people who choose to move to Richfield.”

More election results can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State's website. The office has yet to officially rule on the results.
