'Vested Interest in K9s' Gives Richfield Two Police Dog Vest

The nonprofit based in Massachsetts raised funds with Groupon donations, the Star Tribune reported.

Thanks to a Groupon fundraising effort by the nonprofit group Vested Interest in K9s, Richfield got two police-dog vests valued at $1,000 each, the Star Tribune reported.

“My quest in Minnesota is personal,” the nonprofit's president told the newspaper, mentioning Major, the Roseville K9 stabbed in 2010.*

Richfield Police Department's K9 program started in 2006 and includes German shepherds Bodie and Rocky. In 2011, Izzy joined the force as a drug-sniffing dog.

Vested Interest in K9s has given away 431 vests since 2009, the Star Tribune reported. The organization said on it website that 17 are in Minnesota
