Second Richfield Pedestrian Hit By Car Dies
Jon Smith passed away Dec. 15, according to a Caring Bridge page started in his honor.
Nearly a month after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Portland Avenue, a 55-year-old Richfield man passed away from his injuries Dec. 15.
Jon Smith was taken off a respirator Dec. 15 and died shortly after, according to a Caring Bridge page started in his name.
Smith was crossing Portland from the Richfield American Legion Post 435 on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 17 when he and another Richfield man were struck by a vehicle. The vehicle, which was registered to a 25-year-old female, was traveling southbound on Portland Avenue from 64th Street in the right-hand lane, police said in a release following the incident. The other man, who was identified as 63-year-old Richfield resident Michael John Lindholm, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to initial police reports, the two victims were not in the cross-walk when they were struck. Additional information on the driver and other circumstances surrounding the incident have not been released.
Richfield Patch reached out to police following the news of Smith's death for an update on the investigation. A response had not been received by the time of this article.
