Richfield Woman Charged With Felony Check Forgery

Police say Charlene Ann Wagner stole five checks and cashed two of them fraudulently at Richfield banks.

Charlene Ann Wagner, 46, of Richfield, was arrested for felony check forgery after police say she cashed two of five checks she stole from a friend at Richfield financial institutions.

According to the criminal complaint, Richfield police responded to a theft report on the 6900 block of 18th Avenue. When police arrived, homeowner Mary Woida reported that Wagner had stolen several checks from her and cashed at least two of them.

Woida told police she had discovered the forgeries while checking her account online, the complaint said. She called the bank and was told Wagner had cashed one of the checks around 1 p.m. that day for $300. Woida also found out another check had been cashed in the amunt of $325.

According to the complaint, Woida told police Wagner had been experiencing financial difficulties and had been living with her for the past two months. Woida reportedly confronted Wagner, who admitted to stealing the checks and returned one to her that had been torn up.

In a post-Miranda statement, Wagner admitted that she took and cahsed the checks.

Wagner is charged with one count of felony check forgery, which carries with it a maximum penalty of up to five years in jail and/or a $3,000.
