I used to live in Richfield. It was a nice quiet community where doorlocks weren't all that important. A person of any age could take a walk in the middle of the night without a trace of fear. There were no gangs, meth houses, drive-bys or stabbings. The jail cells were empty more often than not. I can't help but wonder how this quaint little suburb turned into such a crime ridden cesspool.

I don't think Richfield has turned into a "cesspool" for crime. I think that every city has its challenges with crime and when you wipe it out in one area it just moves somewhere else. This is not to say we can't find ways to reduce crime, but I wouldn't count Richfield out.

If you pull Police reports for the city, it is center around certain areas and I was surprised that on 77th Nicollet area had 1071 police contacts last year and on the Conner of 76th and West Pleasant they had 467 police contacts last year where 75th and Pillsbury had 0 contacts. So when people are grouped not saying a triple stabbing could not happen in my front yard, it is remote verses condensed areas of town. You can ask thepolice for reports on certain areas and they would be more than happy to help. As the Richfield PD are a great bunch of professionals that have a tough job.

Yes, there are definitely areas of town that are worse than others - you can note that these are high traffic areas as well. From what I can determine, the stabbing was likely in regards to some type of dispute between these family members and another person/persons. While the stabbing from the night before wasn't confirmed to be related, the man stabbed in Minneapolis on Thursday was related to the two Friday victims. Anyway, if there are more details on the incident I will update all.

Thank you for the support and waiting to find out details before stating your opinions! Richfield PD have been incredible and we, the family, are still waiting on information but the two victims loved one another and horrible tragedies like this can happen ANYWHERE!
