UPDATED: Richfield Officer Shoots and Kills Man in Friday Incident

Police responded to a report of an emotionally disturbed man just after 9 a.m. Friday.

A Richfield police officer shot and killed a man who was allegedly wielding a knife Friday morning.

As previously reported by Patch, Richfield Police were called to a home on the 6600 block of Park Avenue just after 9 a.m. on a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a possible hostage situation.

Investigators confirmed Friday afternoon an officer shot and killed a man during the incident. The shooting happened inside the home, according to a Hennepin County Sheriff's Office press release.

According to CBSMinnesota.com, Maj. Kip Carver of the Hennepin County sheriff’s office would not give details of what happened, or to answer reporters’ questions, but called the case “a very active investigation.”

Carver also said the officer, who has not been named, was not harmed during the incident. Richfield Police want residents to know there is no public safety concern in the neighborhood.
