Richfield Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Choking Girlfriend

Fernando Martinez-Abundez is charged with felony assault.

Fernando Martinez-Abundez, 33, was charged with felony domestic assault after, police believe, he choked his girlfriend on Nov. 5, 2011.

According to , Martinez-Abundez's girlfriend confronted him for not answering her text messages while he was out drinking with friends. Martinez-Abundez became irate and placed his hands on her neck and squeezed, choking her.

The woman told police that, while Martinez-Abundez was choking her, she struggled to get away. Once she did, she called police.

Officers reported observing large areas of the woman's neck were red and irritated.

As of Nov. 8, Martinez-Abundez was being held on $50,000 bail.
