According to the police report, the victim was delivering a pizza to an address in the 6300 block of Lyndale Avenue South. When she arrived, she called the man who placed the order, and he asked her to meet him in the parking lot.

When she got to the parking lot, two men—one carrying a double-barreled shotgun—demanded cash, her car keys and her cell phone, according to the report. The victim gave everything to the men, who drove away in her car.

Police used GPS coordinates to locate the victim’s cell phone and the phone used by Hong to place the pizza order, which they found in the victim’s car, parked and unoccupied in the 3800 block of 5th Avenue in Minneapolis.

Through the car windows, police saw a black canvas Pizza Hut delivery bag, an empty cell-phone case and a double-barreled shotgun. During a subsequent search, police found DNA samples on the gun and fingerprints.

The victim’s cell phone and her purse, which contained her identification, credit cards and personal items, were not found.

The victim described one of the suspects to police as 16 to 18 years old, shorter than 5-foot-6, with a “very heavy build,” wearing an orange and white shirt. Hong is 5-foot-3 and weighs 280 pounds, according to records.

Police records showed that the cell phone number used by Hong to order the pizza was the same number that Hong’s probation officer used to contact him two days before the robbery. Within an hour after the robbery, Hong’s phone was used to call several Pizza Hut locations, the victim’s phone and several “known associates” of Hong, according to the police report.

Hong was spotted Aug. 1, 2011 on the front doorstep of his home and was taken into custody.
