Richfield Man Charged For Fatal Minneapolis Shooting

The Richfield man's girlfriend is also charged in connection with the shooting.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office Thursday charged a Richfield man in the fatal Saturday shooting of St. Paul resident Delwin Cooper. Cooper was shot 11 times.

Kashaun Damon Pierce, 32, was charged with a single count of second-degree murder in the shooting, which took place near 44th Street East and 33rd Avenue South in Minneapolis.

According to a Hennepin County criminal complaint, witnesses reported seeing two vehicles at the scene at the time of the shooting, a BMW, which was later identified as the victim’s and a Cadillac STS, later identified as Pierce’s.

The complaint also stated that witnesses reported that both vehicles fled immediately after the shooting and the BMW was later found to have been set ablaze. Minneapolis police tracked down the Cadillac STS and towed it after finding a bag speckled with what appeared to be blood underneath.

After transporting Pierce’s Cadillac to the Minneapolis Forensic Garage officers discovered multiple areas of what appeared to be blood, discarded cartridge casings and holes in the back seat that were consistent with bullet holes.

In addition, the complaint said Pierce’s girlfriend, Janette Pliego, 21, of Richfield was charged with accomplice after the fact for misleading police numerous times during the investigation.

Pliego is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail. Pierce is believed to be out of state and the criminal complaint was issued as a warrant for Pierce’s arrest.
