One Richfield Man Dead, another Hospitalized after Struck by Driver Sunday

A 25-year-old woman was driving the car that hit the two men, who were not in a crosswalk area when they entered the street.

A 63-year-old Richfield man is dead and a 55-year-old Richfield man has been hospitalized after the two were struck by a vehicle while attempting to a cross a busy Richfield road Sunday.

According to a Richfield Public Safety report issued Monday afternoon:

Richfield Police officers responded to a fatal vehicle crash around 6 p.m. Sunday at 64th street and Portland Ave. South.

A vehicle, driven by a 25-year-old female, was travelling southbound on Portland Avenue from 64th street in the right-hand lane. The driver struck two pedestrians crossing Portland Ave. The pedestrians were not in a cross- walk.

One pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as a 63-year-old resident of Richfield. The second pedestrian was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. He was identified as a 55-year-old resident of Richfield.  As early Monday morning the man was in “critical but semi-stable condition at HCMC.”

Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Richfield Police added that this is an on-going investigation and there are no further details at this time.
