The effects of have been felt nationwide. People throughout the country – along with people here in Hennepin County – are reviewing public safety information – especially as it relates to schools and campuses.
As you may know, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office works in partnership with local law enforcement and school administration on the important public safety goal of keeping schools secure. This week, and in the coming days, the law enforcement community has been increasing their visibility near schools across Hennepin County with additional squad cars and uniformed officers and deputies in an effort to reassure kids and parents that schools remain the safest place for students.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that they should not hesitate to call local police or call 911 if they have concerns about safety or criminal activity. For several years, the advice has been that if you “see something, say something.” Whether at school, the workplace, public transportation, or elsewhere, you are encouraged to report suspicious behavior that doesn’t seem right.
Again, anyone aware of suspicious activity should call their local police, the Sheriff’s Office at 1-888-988-TIPS, or call 911. An anonymous tip service is available to use to send tip information to the Sheriff’s Office.
For anonymous tips, you may choose from three different options:
1) Submit an online form – at www.hennepinsheriff.org
2) Text 847 411 – begin your message with the keyword HCSOTip and then continue entering your tip.
3) Download an app for iPhones or android phones. The apps can be located by searching for “HCSOTip” or “Hennepin.” Clicking on the app create a tip form so you may provide information.
The tip service is not a substitute for 911 and people who need an immediate response are urged to call 911.
