Man Accused of Threatening to Kill Richfield Woman

Abdullahi JImale Jama is charged with making terroristic threats against a Richfield woman—in Somali—while she was being interviewed by a police officer.

A 24-year-old Minneapolis man, Abdullahi Jimale Jama, was charged with making terroristic threats after police say he threatened to kill a Richfield woman while she was being interviewed by a police officer last week.

Making terroristic threats is a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Police were called to a home on the 900 block of East 77th Street just before 5 p.m. April 19 on a report of an assault in progress.

A Minneapolis police detective, who was interviewing the victim about an unrelated crime, made the assault call to .

The woman being interviewed was accompanied by Jama, who was described in the complaint as her boyfriend. According to the complaint, at the beginning of the interview Jama became angry with the woman, grabbed her by the shoulders, and threatened to kill her in Somali.

Although the police sergeant couldn’t understand Jama’s threat, he described him as angry and said the victim was visibly frightened in the report. The victim reportedly told police she believed Jama would carry out his threat, and he had claimed to have killed other people and to be a member of the Vice Lords gang.

According to the complaint, police tested Jama’s blood-alcohol content and determined that it was .26 percent—more than three times the legal limit.

Jama remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $5,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled May 24 in Hennepin County District Court.
