Lyndale Avenue Home Catches Fire After Lightning Strikes

The call came in around 5:18 a.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

A home on the 7100 block of Lyndale Avenue caught fire early Tuesday morning after being struck by lightning.

The was dispatched at 5:18 a.m. after receiving a call from the residents.

According to Fire Chief Wayne Kewitsch, the first arriving units reported smoke and fire coming from the gable end of the roof. The lightning strike blew an approximately two-foot hole in the roof.

The fire was extinguished shortly after the arrival of firefighters and all occupents were able to escape safely, Kewitsch said. However, the second floor of the home suffered significant damage.

Richfield received assistance from Bloomington, MAC and Minneapolis fire departments.
