Burglars Take Valuable Bike

"The Bicycle Thief," this isn't.

Two Richfield residents are missing their bicycles this week, according to reports filed by officers of the Richfield Police Department.

Ladri di Biciclette, this isn't. Together, the stolen bikes are worth almost $6,000.

On Sunday, Aug. 4, unknown suspects broke into a garage on the 6800 block of Park Ave South, the police said. They emerged a little after 9 p.m., high-end bicycle in hand. The victim told officers the missing two-wheeler was a Cannondale Supersix racing bicycle, valued at $5,000.

Later that same evening, another criminal stole a blue Trek racing bike from the 7100 block of 1st Ave South. That bicycle was valued at $700, according to its owner.

Last summer, burglars hit dozens of Minneapolis garages, targeting high-end bicycles. At the time, the Minneapolis Police Department offered a series of tips to protect bicycles from theft.
