Get Out: Eat Chocolate, Get a Manicure, Spend Time With Your Valentine

1) Snowshoeing Basics

Where / When: Wood Lake Nature Center; from 10-11:30 a.m., Feb. 13 and

Why Go: You’ll be able to take in beautiful scenery, some fresh air and, best of all, get some fun exercise. You won’t break the bank either. Instructors will provide all the equipment and know-how, just come ready for fun.

Price: $8/person or free for Friends of Wood Lake (FOWL) members.

2) Spa Treatments

Where / When: and Spa on 66th Street and Lyndale Avenue. Open Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: It’s winter. You’re mind and body need a little attention. The salon is offering 15% off every service, such as manicures, pedicures and waxings, through the weekend to celebrate the opening of its new location. Make sure you go to the one at Market Plaza for the discount; the “old” location on 66th Street and Penn Avenue is still open for another couple months.

Price: Varies depending on service; manicure and pedicure special for just $32 (including discount).

3) Candlelight and Chocolate

Where / When: Richardson Nature Center, 8737 E. Bush Lake Road Bloomington, MN 55438. Phone: 763-694-7676. Feb. 11 and 12 at 6 p.m.

Why Go: The key word is “chocolate.” Get time with your honey in before Valentine’s Day passes you by. This event features a candlelit walk through the nature center woods. You’ll be able to enjoy a chocolate sampler platter, along with tea or coffee and music from Treveld. Reservations are due by 5 p.m. on the day you wish to attend.

Price: $17/person

Where / When: ; Feb.11 at 7 p.m.

Why Go: Family friendly event that is close to home and affordable. The featured movie is “Happy Feet.”

Price: Free; concessions will be available for purchase.

5) (WTF) or Soul Flower

Where / When: ; WTF, Feb. 11 at 9 p.m. and Soul Flower, Feb. 12 at 9 p.m.

Why Go: Live music, close drive, good conversation and neighborhood feel. “Fish Fry Friday” features an Atlantic Cod Dinner for $8.95 and “Satisfying Saturday” gives you a 10 oz. Ribeye Dinner for $13.95. Happy Hour happens daily from 3-7p.m.
