Five Great Gift Ideas to Treat Mom on Mother's Day

Mother's Day is fast approaching, but just because you didn't plan ahead doesn't mean you can't beat your sister to the best gift.

Mother's Day is May 8. What are you getting for Mom? Don't know? Richfield Patch has five suggestions that will warm your mom's heart, not empty your pockets and keep you close to home.

Make it Sentimental

There's a better place for those precious family photos than random shoeboxes in your mom's closet. If you've got time between now and Mother's Day, put together a scrapbook of the best memories you've shared with Mom.

at the Hub Shopping Center has everything from themed stickers to photo adhesive to the album itself. Just provide the pictures and your own brand of creativity.

If you're running on a tighter schedule, consider taking one special photograph and designing your own frame. Even though you're not in kindergarten anymore, remember that it's the thought that counts, and even if you're not particularly artistically advanced, your mom will still appreciate the homemade touch.

Trusty Tulips

Unless your mom is allergic, or has had a traumatic flower-related experience, buying a bouquet is a sure way to make Mom smile.

features a wide array of flowers, including bouquets and indoor blooming plants.

According to manager Marilyn Weis, tulips are a popular choice.

"Everyone needs a little springtime feeling," she said. "A lot of people choose bright and colorful bouquets."

Tulip bouquets are only $9.99. Other popular choices include lilies and Gerber Daisies in orange and hot pink, in vase arrangements with bright and cheery ribbon.

Mom Has to Eat, Too

Give mom a break in the kitchen and pick up the bill for once! Everyone loves a good brunch, so chances are, you'll reap the yummy benefits of this gift, too.

opens at 6 a.m. Sunday and features breakfast choices all day. And, you can give your mom a nice meal—that includes some quality time spent with you—without breaking the bank. Throw in pie and it's the perfect springtime Sunday, in my opinion. You deserve a piece, too!

Pretty and Pampered

There are a lot of moms who don't do enough for themselves, and could use some pampering. Treat your mom to a manicure or a pedicure at and get her feet ready for spring sandals.

"A luxury spa pedicure is $25 on special," said manager Diane Nguyen. "A manicure and pedicure combo is $32."

Get a gift certificate and your mom can go on her own time, when she needs to relax most. If you feel like including your sister and grandma and making it a ladies' day out, groups of four or more receive a 10% discount on services. However, if you make it a joint outing, don't get so relaxed that you forget to pick up the tab!

Welcome to the 21st Century

Video games and iPods aren't just for you anymore! My mom just got an iPhone (she even beat me to it), so I'm considering a fun and personalized case.

has tons of great ideas for moms, especially if you're willing to go all out and get her something really nice.

Manager Stephanie Park recommends a variety of gifts.

"The hottest thing for moms is an eReader, and Best Buy has them all; Color Nooks, Kindles, and Sony eReaders," Park said.

Also, if you feel like sharing your Xbox, there are a variety of video games that Mom would enjoy. The Xbox Kinect series has games such as Zumba fitness.

"They are good, family fun but are also good for working out," Park said.

If your mom is really fitness-focused, you could get her a Fit Bit. It clips onto your shirt and measures everything, from how many calories you eat to how well you are sleeping. As long as you're positive your mom wouldn't be offended by a health-suggestive gift; go for it!
