A City Favorite Returns to Headline Annual 4th of July Street Dance

The Rockin' Hollywoods are back from another year.

The Rockin’ Hollywoods, a favorite band for many in Richfield, will once again be entertaining us at the annual July 3rd Street Dance. Founded in 1973, the Rockin’ Hollywoods plays music from the 1960’s through the 1980’s while wearing costumes from those time periods. Richfield first saw the Rockin’ Hollywoods a few years ago as part of the street dance and, “they are returning after a very successful street dance last year,” said Entertainment Chair Ben Smith.

The street dance gates will open at 6 p.m. and the band will take the stage at 7:00 pm, ending at 11:00pm. Learn more about this years Richfield Ambassador and Junior Ambassador Candidates when they take the stage during the band’s first break.

It is $5 to get into the street dance or free with a 4th of July button for those who are 21 or over. For those under 21 it is asked that you give a $3 goodwill donation to cover the cost of the event. Buttons will NOT be sold at the street dance and must be purchased ahead of time. They can be purchased at local businesses as well as from the Richfield Ambassador Candidates. For a list of places selling them be sure to visit www.richfield4thfojuly.com

Once again there will be a great line up of food vendors at the Street Dance.  This year’s delicious selection will include cheese curds, Taco Taxi, Cantina Numero Uno, ice cream, pizza, Westrum's Quality Foods (Hot dogs, corn dogs, fruit smoothies, mini donuts), Minnesota Sausage Company (Loaded baked potatoes, bratwurst cooked in beer, sauerkraut, Philly cheese steaks, sausage with grilled veggies) and the very popular Sweet Corn and More.  Be sure to come hungry.

Alcoholic drinks this year will be Budwiser, Michgolden Light, and Shock Top. Malt Beverages will also be sold; Baccardi Lemonade and Michelob Ultra Cider.  Tickets are $5.00 and cash and Credit/Debit Cards accepted!  Nonalcoholic drinks are available to purchase from the food vendors.

New this year will be a small kids area at the street dance. Staffed by the Richfield Ambassadors and Candidates, kids can come by for some kid friendly games.  Red, white, and blue beads will be available for purchase to get into the holiday spirit.  You can also find candidates and ambassadors dancing in front of the stage, so be sure to stop by and join them.

Also new this year will be the use of credit cards to purchase drink tickets. While cash must still be used at the gate and with the food vendors, anyone wishing to purchase tickets to have alcoholic beverages can use a credit card.

Since 1999 the Richfield 4th of July Committee has been putting on this annual event, although many of us remember when it was put on by the VFW in Richfield. All proceeds made through gate sales and drink purchases go towards covering the cost of the Street Dance. Any funds left over go to fund the entire 4th of July Celebration.

We are always looking for volunteers to work shifts at the street dance. If you are interested please contact Ben at 612-750-0515. Volunteers get a free 4th of July button and two free drink tickets.

I would love to see Dunn Brother's come back. The parking is the major problem. But I hope theyRead More don't utilize the idea to eliminate lanes on Lyndale. It is already like driving behind a funeral procession - often as slow as 15-20 miles an hour. It is so annoying.

The fact that the parking lot is hidden makes it appear as though there is little parking, and IRead More think that hurts business there. I think Dunn bros would be awesome but the store is too small for them... The bean roaster would take up 1/2 the store...

That's good advice. Also keep in mind that your reactions to the event probably won't be imitatedRead More while your children are young. But as they grow older, they'll subconsciously remember your reactions and that will greatly influence how they respond to these situations in adulthood. So if you're someone who started swearing at the TV about Muslim terrorists, or you wept for the victims, or you prayed for the souls of the perpetrators, you should expect your reaction to ultimately have far more influence on your child than the discussions mentioned in this article.

Exactly, Chris Mau!!! Kids live what they learn at home. If we treat kids with respect, as well asRead More how we present the facts of life, kids will grow to become empathetic, meaning, they will care and have compassion for the world around them. If they see us cussing out different races, creeds and colors or origins, they will grow up mean, spiteful and cynical. It's all up to US adults people...who's willing to step to the plate and be that example? These children, they are our future....how they grow depends on us.
