No. 2: An Argument at a Richfield Voting Precinct

However, one voter got more than she bargained for. After casting her vote, an unnamed man, about the passing of the referendum. Ruiters said the man told her he felt the referendum shouldn't be passed and was quite vocal about it.

“It was almost like an argument broke out in the middle of the precinct,” Ruiters told Richfield Patch. “I was shocked to be met with such strong opposition at the polls … and I was shocked to be met with allegations that the schools were misappropriating funds.”

The city was notified of the problem and the man was reminded of his duties as an election judge. The accused judge admitted to making remarks about times being tough, he also said he told Ruiters he was a former teacher and supported the schools, according to a City of Richfield statement.

Many Richfield Patch felt that while it was inappropriate for the election judge to express his opinions, Ruiters was also to blame.
