Richfield Schools Receive Grants to Improve Recycling Initiatives

More than $14,000 was awarded to various Richfield institutions.

Three Richfield schools were recently awarded more than $14,000 in recycling grants through Hennepin County's School Recycling Assistance Program.

The program aims to help schools improve or expand recycling, reduce waste or incorporate organics recycling. 

Richfield Public Schools received $6,734.25, Partnership Academy received $5,906.39, and South Education Center (Independent School District 287) was awarded $1,548.50.

All in all, Hennepin County awarded more than $87,000 to six public school districts, two public charter schools and two non-public schools for projects this year. According to the county, the 2013 projects will engage a total of 13,900 students and additional parents and staff. Schools can apply for funding each year; 2013 awards have all been allocated.

Richfield's Academy of Holy Angels received a grant for $8,500 in 2012.
