Penn Central Meeting

Become Part of the Future of the Penn Central Neighborhood!

Attend the first-ever evening Third Thursday meeting on Janaury 20th at 6:15 p.m.

David Gepner, a Penn Central area resident, has been leading a monthy community meeting called Third Thursday for a number of years.  The original purpose of the meeting was to gather local business people in the Penn and 66th area to discuss their needs and visions as business operators. Soon, a number of area residents started attending, too.  The meetings have been a good opportunity for residents and business operators to build relationships and discuss the the future of the area.  As the name Third Thursday would suggest, the meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month. Third Thursday meetings have traditionally been held in the morning at 7:30 a.m.  But to encourage more participation from community members whoo cannot attend a morning meeting, the January 2011 meeting will be held in the evening at 6:15 p.m. at DAVANNI'S at 64th and Penn.

A number of accomplishments have come from Third Thursday meetings.  The idea of the Penn Fest Community Festival was borne out of Third Thursday meetinsg.  Three annual Penn Fest events have been held, and plans for the next Penn Fest will soon be underway.  Members of the Third Thursday meetings also felt that there was a need for a stronger identity for the area.  The commerical district has been known by several names over the years, but there was no official name for the area.  People attending the first Penn Fest were asked to submit their suggestions for names for the Penn and 66th district.  Over 100 suggestions were submitted.  Through a series of votes, the name Penn Central was chosen.

But we need a lot more involvement, energy and ideas to build our community. The next Third Thursday meeting is your grassroots opportunity to get involved in the future of your neighborhood in the Penn and 66th area.  It's your chance to meet fellow neighbors and business people along the avenue.  You'll also get a chance to voice your opinions and take the first step to get involved in our annual Penn Fest event.  Our goal is to build community, and we need you!
