Sherry Minnick & Rachel Nelson in concert at Richfield Historical Society

Sherry Minnick & Rachel Nelson to perform at Richfield

Historical Society, August 21, 7:00 pm

Our 2013 concert series at

the Richfield Historical Society draws to a close on Wednesday, August 21 at

7:00 pm.  We are delighted to reunite two

long term friends of the Homestead Pickin’ Parlor, Sherry Minnick and Rachel Nelson, who have performed together

many times in years past and are pleased to be able to hear them once again

join their talents to entertain RHS fans and followers of traditional music.

Rachel Nelson is a

storyteller, songwriter and roots based musician whose passion is live

performance.  Her fiddle, banjo and

guitar kick out original songs ranging from folk and country to swing and jazz

tinged blues.  In her own words “My roots

are in old-time music, and it is a joy to play and sing this music with my

long-time friend, Sherry Minnick”.  Prior

to moving to Two Harbors, her current home, Rachel was a teacher at the

Homestead Pickin’ Parlor.

Sherry Minnick comes from a

singing family and has been singing as long as she can remember.  She sings bluegrass, old-time, swing, jazz,

gospel, classic country and traditional ballads.  To call her musical taste eclectic is an

understatement.  She taught children’s

choirs for 17 years and currently focuses artistically on the unaccompanied

singing of traditional ballads.  She also

plays guitar for square dances.  Sherry

is a former employee of the Homestead Pickin’ Parlor and one that we have

enjoyed staying in touch with through the years.

The concert will be held at Richfield Historical Society’s

Bartholomew House located at 6901

Lyndale Ave S.

It is the oldest house in Richfield

and I’m sure  the house itself as well as

the audience will resonate to the traditional music being performed.  The event will be held rain or shine, but

weather forecasts look most favorable.

Bring a lawn chair and join us for this final 2013 Backporch at the Bart concertIt’s

free and open to the public and families are encouraged to attend.  Refreshments will be available.
