New 'PatchCasts,' Photos Galore & More

Richfield Patch was all over town last week. Think you missed something? Patch's weekly roundup is here to help.

Last week Patch launched a new daily video series to replace the daily PatchCasts that were running before. The new daily features include:

  • : A local Patch editor tries her hand a different job every week;
  • : Patch recognizes great community athletes and teams;
  • : Local experts show viewers what they do and how they do it;
  • : Patch peeks into the kitchens of local restaurants to see the personalities behind the grills.

The Neighborhood Files

The fourth annual Richfield Community Wellness Expo took place Saturday at Richfield High School (RHS). Patch was there to snap a ton of pictures. To see the photo gallery, click .

The Richfield Skating School and the St. Paul Figure Skating Club (SPFSC) teamed up for a day of figure skating programs at the Richfield Ice Arena over the weekend. Patch was there to snap photos of the Richfield programs; click .

Schools

The results for the meeting April 4. Among the most talked about statistics and numbers, was the fact that 60 percent of 12th-grade girls at RHS admit to being sexually active.

Richfield Patch talked with educators to see if they were ready to implement new social studies curriculum requirements. Every seven years a panel discusses changes; changes will be implemented in the 2011-12 school year. For the full story, click .

RHS applied for a $5,000 Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports Community Grant. Community members are encouraged to complete an online course and then a 10-question quiz. Each completed quiz gets one point; the six schools with the highest points by May 31 get the grants. For the full story, click .

House Minority Leader Paul Thissen (DFL-Minneapolis), who also represents Richfield, said there was a in the state’s budget and asked member to send the budget bill back to the Health and Human Services Committee. In addition, Thissen said the new omnibus finance bill would .

State Sen. Ken Kelash showed his support for an amendment that would . Kelash thought that doing this would not only level the playing field for all retailers, but also generate revenue for the state.

Opinion
