National Weather Service: Snow Increases in Intensity Overnight

A winter storm warning is still in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

While most of central and southern Minnesota woke up Monday morning with a couple news inches of snow, Tuesday morning will likely be a different story.

According to the latest reports from the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, snow will increase in intenstity Monday night, with heavy amounts expected through Tuesday morning. By late in the day Tuesday, new snow accumulations will of 6 to 10 inches, and 12 inches in some areas, are expected.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

.SNOW WAS FALLING EARLY THIS MORNING ACROSS CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES WERE COMMON OVERNIGHT ACROSS THE MINNESOTA RIVER VALLEY WITH TRACE TO ONE INCH AMOUNTS FARTHER EAST. IN ADDITION...SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WAS BEING REPORTED DUE TO BRISK SOUTHEAST WINDS AT 15 TO 25 MPH.

THE SNOW WILL SPREAD ACROSS WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN THIS MORNING WHILE CONTINUING ACROSS EASTERN MINNESOTA. A DIMINISHING TREND IN THE SNOW IS FORECAST FOR WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL AREAS OF MINNESOTA THIS MORNING WITH SOME FREEZING DRIZZLE POSSIBLE DURING THE AFTERNOON. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS TODAY WILL RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES OVER WEST CENTRAL THROUGH SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA WITH 2 TO 4 INCHES ACROSS EASTERN MINNESOTA AND WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN.

THE SNOW WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY TONIGHT ACROSS EASTERN MINNESOTA AND WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN... AS AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE SLIDES SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE REGION. MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED DURING THE NIGHT AND TUESDAY MORNING BEFORE DIMINISHING TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

BY LATE IN THE DAY ON TUESDAY...SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO 10 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA AND WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN. THE AXIS OF HIGHEST SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION IS FORECAST NEAR THE MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN BORDER AREA. SOME STORM TOTALS COULD APPROACH 12 INCHES.
