Richfield's Best Buy Gives $100K to Midwest Storm Relief Efforts

After the destructive storms a week ago, Best Buy gives money and aid to help the cause.

On behalf of its 180,000 employees worldwide, Richfield-based Best Buy has made a $100,000 donation to support the immediate response efforts to the recent outbreak of storms throughout the Midwest.

A $75,000 contribution was made to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund to help advance overall efforts in relief, recovery and restoration in affected communities in Oklahoma, Missouri, Minnesota, Kansas and other parts of the Midwest. An additional $25,000 donation was made to the Minneapolis Foundation to support their relief efforts in North Minneapolis.

"We appreciate our partners' expertise in disaster relief and the efforts they make to ensure the safety and recovery of those impacted and in rebuilding these communities." said Paula Prahl, senior vice president of Communications, Public Affairs, and Corporate Responsibility for Best Buy. "The heartfelt thoughts and prayers of Best Buy employees across the country go out to the residents affected by the devastating storms in Minneapolis and in communities throughout the United States."

In addition to monetary aid in their hometown, Best Buy has mobilized their Geek Squad agents to deploy three mobile phone charging stations in North Minneapolis to help local residents stay connected to friends, families and the services they need while they await power to be restored.

The charging stations, typically located on site at the Minnesota Twins' baseball stadium, are designed to accommodate most mobile phone brands and models and allow charging of eight devices at one time. The charging stations are available immediately for use at the following North Minneapolis locations:

Charging stations will remain at the community locations were set up May 26, will remain up for one week and may be extended based on community needs.
