Council Tables McDonald's Items Until August

The fast food chain asked to have the public hearing continued to the council's first August meeting.

Knowing its proposal was not likely to be approved, McDonald's requested two items on the Richfield City Council's Tuesday agenda be continued to next month, which city staff obliged and council accepted.

According to Community Development Director John Stark, McDonald's representatives asked to be given more time before the council decided whether to green-light the project. The project is proposed for the northwest corner of Richfield Parkway at Cedar Point Commons, and has been in the works for about two years.

The council was set hold a public hearing Tuesday, and review a request to amend the city's planned unit development (PUD) for the shopping center, and decide whether to approve a conditional use permit and other variance requests.

City staff and the Richfield Planning Commission did not give their blessings on the project last month, and, while anything is possible, it is unlikely the council would go against staff and officials' recommendations.
