Best Buy Donates $200K in Product, Tech Support to Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

Geek Squad agents are hitting the ground to assist those people and organizations providing disaster relief.

Editor's Note: The following is a Best Buy press release.

We join the millions of people around the world whose thoughts and prayers are with those who have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The devastation is enormous and more than any one organization can solve – so we’d like to contribute to the many generous efforts by individuals, nonprofits and companies across the country.

On behalf of our 170,000 employees worldwide, Best Buy is donating $200,000 of product and Geek Squad tech support services. Geek Squad Agents will be on the ground lending their unique expertise and support to nonprofits, schools and libraries delivering disaster relief to the region.

Agents will have on-site charging and email stations, as well as mobile hotspots during the recovery phase. They will be accessible for tech help and guidance on computing devices, such as repairing connectivity issues and troubleshooting hardware and software issues. Agents will also be going to shelters to donate and set up televisions, gaming stations and other entertainment devices to assist families who are without a place to call home.

“The images of the damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy are overwhelming,” said Susan Bass Roberts, director of community relations for Best Buy. “We are very grateful to the first responders, government officials and everyday heroes who have been working tirelessly to help those in need and are eager to lend our expertise in the relief efforts.”

We continue to monitor the situation and look for additional opportunities to assist with recovery efforts.
