Richfield Arts Commission Begins Public Art Directory Planning

Brochure to highlight 20 public sculptures and murals in Richfield.

The Richfield Arts Commission was busy planning its “Public Art in Richfield” directory at Thursday night’s meeting.

This pamphlet will highlight more than 20 public sculptures and murals located in Richfield that residents can view through walking or driving tours. The brochure will include a map with the locations of the art works along with a brief history of each piece. The commission, , wants to have the brochure in the hands of residents by this summer.

  • Nancy Rector is the featured artist for the next two months at the community center. Rector is having an open house for her work from 1 to 3 p.m. March 19 at the .
  • The commission is hosting a movie night at 7 p.m. April 1 at the Richfield Community Center. The movie night is baseball themed as they will be showing “Everyone’s Hero.” Crackerjacks and peanut snacks will complete the themed night.
  • Commission members were invited to help at the dance recital which will be 7 p.m. on April 15 and 1 p.m. on April 16 at the . The recital’s theme is “Set Sail With Us.” There are over 100 kids and adults participating in the recital making it the largest arts program in Richfield.
  • The Art Center Open House dates have been set for the second Saturday of each month starting May 14. The open houses will have specific themes each month. Spin art, face painting, rubbings, a pottery lottery, painting murals and simple crafts have been part of past open house activities.
  • The commission discussed the possibility of being allowed to demonstrate, display and sell their art from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday’s at the Farmer’s Market.
  • Ellen Stinger and Judy Goebel were re-elected for the commission’s co-chair positions and Kevin Klos was re-elected to be the commission’s secretary.

The next Richfield Arts Commission meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 7 at the Richfield Community Center.
