Blue Wolf brings Bluegrass Music to Penn Fest 2012

Blue Wolf Bluegrass Band has been entertaining bluegrass fans since 2001 throughout the Upper Midwest
and Canada.  It was a serendipitous gathering of talent to round out a recording session that brought Blue Wolf to
coalesce over a decade ago and it has since become one of the most popular bands in this region.

Founders and husband /wife musical team, Jerry
and Shirley Spanhanks are the nucleus of the band.  Shirley flatpicks the guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals. Multi-instrumentalist Jerry grew up playing music since childhood in his native Arkansas.  He is equally at home playing the guitar, dobro, banjo, bass and has even been known to pull out the fiddle from time to time.  He joins Shirley to fulfill most of the vocal responsibilities
of the band.  The quartet is rounded out by Nick Larson on bass with an occasional vocal assignment and Bruce Johnson on banjo, harmonica and mandolin.

Blue Wolf offers three CDs of their music.  “Red
River Moon”
was nominated for the 2003 Minnesota Music Awards in the bluegrass/old-time music category.  It has since been joined in the Blue Wolf catalog by “Brown Shingle Shack”  and Jerry’s 2012 instrumental Dobro CD titled “Wolf’s Run”.
