Richfield Residents: Here's Your Winter Tip Sheet
Freezing rain may turn into snow come Wednesday afternoon.
While the National Weather Service reduced its winter storm warning Tuesday to a winter storm advisory for most of the metro area, Richfield residents obviously aren't yet out of the winter storm woods. Expect area precipitation to alternate between freezing rain and a wintry mix Wednesday morning, with one to three inches of snow likely accumulating throughout the day.
Here are a few tips to help Richfield residents navigate this Leap Day storm over the next 36 hours.
- Traffic: Trying to determine the best route to work or school? Check out live traffic reports here or go to Traffic.com.
- Flights: Wondering if a flight is delayed or cancelled? Get information on flight and airport status at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport (MSP) or go to iFly.com.
- School Closings: Kare 11 News assembled a useful list detailing school closures and delayed openings across the metro. As of earlly Wednesday morning, Richfield schools were not on the list.
- Parking: In Richfield, a snow parking ban automatically goes into effect after a snowfall of two or more inches, which the city may see Wednesday. Work crews may begin plowing anytime after two inches of snow falls, although they generally won't begin plowing until 5 or 6 a.m. the day after the accumulation. The city has no hard-and-fast rule about plowing.
“If you’re in doubt, just plan on having your car off the street until you’re plowed to the curb,” said Victor Wood, a public works operations aid for the City of Richfield.

Residents who park on the street after a snowfall of two or more inches may be tagged or towed. After snowplows have cleared a street "from curb to curb," street parking is allowed to resume. Residents interested in more information on the City of Richfield’s winter parking and snow plowing operations should go to the city’s website.
