I've seen both of those in my yard, too! I live on 72nd and Aldrich, right at the back entrance of Wood Lake Nature Center, and I have yet to see coyotes. And, if I'm being honest, I'd like to keep it that way. I find them a little scary!

There was a wild turkey in my yard on April 13th. I live at 75th and Pillsbury. It jumped the fence to get in and out. The dogs were going crazy at the back door door, and when I looked out, there it was. It only stayed in the yard for about 5 minutes before hoping onto the fence and over into the neighbors yard. Haven't seen a coyote yet, and I don't want to!

Looks like I should make a new map for turkey sightings!

And just as I said I never wanted to see a coyote, one ran in front of my car on Oak Grove Boulevard 20 minutes ago!

I've seen the coyote on 66th and Stevens and also the coyote and the turkey on the trails at Veteran's Memorial Park, twice!

You saw one at Veterans, too! Jeez, they are making the rounds in the city! Make sure to plot it on the map!

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if a coyote hung out in my neighborhood to eat the rabbits that keep eating my flowers! That probably sounds mean, but hey, the coyote has to eat too!
David Haines June 01, 2012 at 02:07 PM
Kirsten, as long as they don't eat my cat or my chickens I am cool with the coyotes too. Though, I do think my cat does a better job of protecting my garden from squirrels and bunnies most of the time.

We live near 70th and Morgan and about 3 weeks ago a huge buck ran up the street. Then we have found lots of dead rabbits and squirrel in our yard. We found out we have a fox that is roaming the neighborhood, do that explains the dead wildlife that is destroying my tree and digging holes in our yard. But coyotes, we have not seen any yet!
Caitlin Burgess (Editor) June 01, 2012 at 09:09 PM
Karen Shragg - the director of Wood Lake Nature Center - told me the coyotes are great for controlling populations like the rabbits that multiply so quickly. Something has been eating my roses too!

I've seen a lot of fox around too. I found a dead rabbit in my yard in February, however, it looked as if it died of natural causes. I was hoping something would take it away, however, I wasn't so lucky. The removal of that poor little thing was icky - it weighed at least 15 lbs!

Saw one finally! Racing right across 66 street. Literally ten feet in front of my car. Pretty decent size. Perfect for eating cats and chickens.

Here's a heads-up for cat owners: do not let your kitties roam free due to the fox and coyote population. I live on 69th and Sheridan and have seen 2 foxes strolling down the Avenue in the past year!
Caitlin Burgess (Editor) July 14, 2012 at 02:56 PM
I've never thought of fox being that lethal! Maybe I need to make another map for fox spottings!

I watched a coyote walking down East 67th Street this morning (about 3:30 a.m.) - I live by city hall. It was going east toward Portland Ave. We had a lot of bunnies around here earlier this summer and I haven't seen as many recently. Now we know why!
