Portions of 494 to Close This Weekend

Work on the highway's westbound lanes is part of the 494 Improvement Project.

According to an announcement from the MnDOT, Richfield residents—and anyone else with a car, for that matter—need to find some detours when heading along I-494 this weekend.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, the highway's westbound lanes from the I-35W interchange to the Hwy 100 interchange will be closed. The road is scheduled to re-open by 4 a.m. on Monday. Signs will reroute motorists along 35W, Hwy 62, Hwy 77, and Hwy 100.

494's eastbound lanes will not be affected by the weekend closure.

In an announcement emailed to Patch, MnDOT promised the work—part of a project revamping all of 494—will help improve traffic flow, repair the road surface, and reduce future maintenance costs.

More information on the project can be found on the MnDOT website, or via the statewide 511 road conditions map.
