PHOTOS: Wind and Sun Make for a Picture Perfect Kite Festival

Dozens of children of all ages along with their parents gathered at Augsburg Park Public Library Saturday for a Kite Festival.

Librarian Phouc Tran from the knows how to captivate an audience and a lot about the history of kites.

Saturday morning she explained the story of how kites were invented to a class of all ages held at the library. Through her sounds and animated gestures, she held the attention of everyone in the the classroom.

Following this story of the history of kites by Tran, everyone got to assemble their own kite with high hopes that the weather would cooperate enough to allow everyone to go outside into to actually fly them.

Richfield Police Department Community Liaison , presented a brief overview of the Richfield Police Multicultural Advisory Committee and it's role in the community. In addition, provided snacks and water for the attendees of the class and police officers stopped by to visit with kids and parents in the park during the event.

The weather outside turned out to be a perfect mix of wind and sun when time came to fly the kites. See our photo gallery for a glimpse of all the colors and fun that was had by all in attendance.

Besides just Richfield, the Kite Festival drew attendees from neighboring communities beyond such as Plymouth, Edina, Apple Valley, Blaine, and St. Paul.

The Kite Festival is sponsored by the Friends of the Augsburg Park Library and presented in collaboration with Richfield Public Safety, J (JCPP), and the Richfield Police Multicultural Advisory Committee.
