PHOTOS: Richfield’s Annual 4th of July Celebration Kicks Off With Carnival

Richfield's annual Hometown 4th of July Celebration kicked off Friday evening with the opening of the carnival on the north side of Veterans Memorial Park.

Despite some concerns from residents about the ruining , the events kicked off Friday evening. Some brave residents tolerated heat and humidity in order to be first riders at the annual Carnival.

From rides to slides to games to goodies, the carnival is now in full swing. The carnival will run Saturday from 1-11p.m.; Sunday from noon to 11 p.m.; and Monday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It's located on the north side of the park near the intersection of 66th Street and Portland Avenue.

Next up is Saturday's festivities. Besides the carnival, Saturday is Family Night, which begins at 5:30 p.m. with a Kids Parade. Registration for the parade begins at 5 p.m. There is also a 50 cent picnic and with music from Kidsdance running from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The evening will end with the Movie in the Park event featuring the film "Despicable Me" on the big screen. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and we'll see you there.
