Editor's note: This is a new weekly series called "Pet of the Week" where we feature a companion up for adoption from Pet Haven of Minnesota.
Every two weeks, Richfield Petco partners with Pet Haven of Minnesota for adoption events for dogs and cats that need new homes.
This week's Richfield Patch Pet of the Week is Maddie:
Maddie is a 2-3-year-old Toy Fox Terrier/Rat Terrier mix, who comes from an abusive home and was rescued in southern Minnesota. Because of her less-than-ideal circumstances, Maddie was timid around other animals at first during her shelter stay. But after entering foster care and a little time warming up to her new surroundings, it became clear that Maddie is a truly loving and eager-to-please animal.
Maddie loves attention from her family: she loves laying on laps, will instantly roll over if you pet her belly, and is happy to try on any wacky or cute costumes you find for her.
She is an attentive learner, and shows speedy progress in training. She learned “sit” in her short time in foster care, and knows the meaning of “treat”, “outside”, and “time for bed.”
When Maddie needs to go to the bathroom she will wait diligently by the door; when it is time for bed, Maddie will lay in her kennel on command and doesn’t mind being there.
Maddie is a typical terrier when it comes to energy levels. She would love a family that would take her for walks and let her frolic in their yard.
Maddie would be a great fit for a family with other dogs and dog-friendly cats, as she currently lives w/ three other animals and does great. Also, Maddie hardly barks, so apartment or townhome life is definitely a possibility. Simply due to Maddie’s initial timidity, we would not want to place her with a family with small children. But any family that is active and understands the quirks of the terrier breeds should consider this sweet pet.
