Pet of the Week: Lucy the Coonhound

Lucy is looking for a forever home.

Editor's note: This is a new weekly series called "Pet of the Week" where we feature a companion up for adoption from Pet Haven of Minnesota.

Every two weeks, Richfield Petco partners with Pet Haven of Minnesota for adoption events for dogs and cats that need new homes.

This week's Richfield Patch Pet of the Week is Lucy:

Lucy is a 3-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix who came to PetHaven from a 10-month layover in an Iowa shelter after her family surrendered her through no fault of her own.

Lucy loves to amble along with her owner on brisk walks, enjoying the outdoors and the benefits of exercise (Lucy is 80lbs but should slim down to 65lbs; though she still looks stunning in any leash she wears).

Lucy currently lives in a smaller home along with two dogs and a cat whom she likes very much, even though they don’t play as much as she’d like.

Having spent a lot of time in a shelter, Lucy is still getting used to being in a home (it has been a while). And because of her former kennel living, she doesn’t enjoy too much time in crates. But she does fine confined to a small area with a baby gate.

Lucy does well with most kids, but once nipped at a younger child after being poked in the eye, so she will only be placed in a home with older, dog savvy children.

Lucy’s ideal fit would be with a family that could take her on regular walk to help her lose weight; a home with a fenced in yard, as she is fond of roaming; and a family that can handle an occasional bark when she wants to play.

Check out Lucy’s profile at petfinder.com/petdetail/22195148 or come meet her in person on Oct. 20 at the Richfield Petco, where she will be with Pet Haven’s other large breed dogs.
