And the Couple With the Greatest Love Story in Minnesota Is ...

See who won the contest below.

Without further ado ...

Richfield's Kyah Hanzal and Mike Hayek are the winners of Patch's Greatest Love Story in Minnesota contest, receiving nearly 50 percent of the vote. Their story was one of eight submitted to the contest.

The couple not only gets bragging rights for the greatest love story in the state, but also a $50 gift card to D'Amico and Sons from Patch.

Kyah submitted the couple's story and the following was how she told it:

Once upon a time there was a girl named Kyah Hanzal from Richfield, MN who started going to school in Richfield with Mike Hayek in 3rd grade. Growing up they crossed paths many times, including gym classes in middle school and social studies classes in high school. It may have seemed that they would have ended up being high school sweethearts, but they didn't end up hanging out until after they graduated high school. They started dating on June 24th, 2009 and stayed together even though they physically parted ways. Kyah went to college in Mankato, MN to pursue a degree in elementary education while Mike stayed at his house in Richfield to go to the University of Minnesota. Then on May 4th, 2012 they had a picnic by Minnehaha falls. The weather was nice but it was about to rain. The happy couple decided to walk to the bottom of the falls and make their way along the creek down to the Mississippi River. It had just started to sprinkle but before they left, Mike told Kyah that he loved her and wanted to start the rest of his life with her so he got down on one knee and Kyah said yes! Mike is currently attending the University of Minnesota's Law School and after Kyah graduates in May, the happy couple will get married on June 14th, 2013 where they will hopefully live happily every after!

Congratulations to Kyah and Mike, and all of the couples who were part of the contest. Love is a great gift. Happy Valentine's Day, from Patch.

congrats on their relationship, but yeah. i think couples that have been together alot longer than them deserve the award and attention. These days relationships and marriages are alot more unstable than the ones from years ago. I personally was married for 20 years, but things did not work out and i never imagined myself as being divorced. It took a huge toll on me as well as my children. Cute story and happy for them, but you never know whats down the road,..just sayin.

Kim, thanks for your concern but divorce is not an option in either of our books. Also, we know our love story is not the greatest in Minnesota but I got all of my friends to vote so I could surprise Mike and take him out for once. I just can't wait to marry the love of my life.

I would love to see Dunn Brother's come back. The parking is the major problem. But I hope theyRead More don't utilize the idea to eliminate lanes on Lyndale. It is already like driving behind a funeral procession - often as slow as 15-20 miles an hour. It is so annoying.

The fact that the parking lot is hidden makes it appear as though there is little parking, and IRead More think that hurts business there. I think Dunn bros would be awesome but the store is too small for them... The bean roaster would take up 1/2 the store...

That's good advice. Also keep in mind that your reactions to the event probably won't be imitatedRead More while your children are young. But as they grow older, they'll subconsciously remember your reactions and that will greatly influence how they respond to these situations in adulthood. So if you're someone who started swearing at the TV about Muslim terrorists, or you wept for the victims, or you prayed for the souls of the perpetrators, you should expect your reaction to ultimately have far more influence on your child than the discussions mentioned in this article.

Exactly, Chris Mau!!! Kids live what they learn at home. If we treat kids with respect, as well asRead More how we present the facts of life, kids will grow to become empathetic, meaning, they will care and have compassion for the world around them. If they see us cussing out different races, creeds and colors or origins, they will grow up mean, spiteful and cynical. It's all up to US adults people...who's willing to step to the plate and be that example? These children, they are our future....how they grow depends on us.
