Dunkin' Donuts may be about ready to plunge back into Minnesota, according to media reports.

Potential locations aren't public, but a Dunkin' official told the Star Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press that most would be in the Twin Cities area.

If the news sounds familiar, it might be because past efforts to bring Dunkin' Donuts back the state came to naught, according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. The last Dunkin' location in Minnesota closed in 2005, the Star Tribune reported.

Dunkin' Donuts did not respond to requests for a list of potential locations in Minnesota. The company's franchisee web page lists all parts of the state except St. Louis County as "available markets."

In Wisconsin, where the company already has several stores, a dozen northwestern counties bordering Minnesota are also called "available markets." One notable exception is St. Croix County, which is instead a "future market" that is not open for development yet.

More than 1,000 people have liked a Bring Dunkin Donuts to Minnesota Facebook page.

I miss Donut Connection. My mom used to take me there on Saturdays when I was a kid. I'm definitely down for a new doughnut shop, whatever brand it is.
