Eleven Community Initiatives to Receive Richfield Foundation Grants

The Richfield Foundation is able to give the grants from a portion of donations received during the year and earnings from an endowment.

The Richfield Foundation is presenting 11 community initiatives and organizations with grants at Tuesday's Richfield City Council meeting.

According to a foundation press release, more than $13,000 is being dispersed to various programs in 2013:

The following organizations will receive funds:

Cornerstone - an agency serving domestic abuse victims

Dedicated purpose for grant: Pave Technology Pilot

Grant award: $1.580

Headway Emotional Health Services - a service working with youth

Dedicated purpose for grant: Truancy Intervention Resource Fund

Grant award: $1,000 

MIRA - an agency working with Hispanic residents

Dedicated purpose for grant: General operations

Grant award: $2,000

Oasis for Youth - an agency providing assistance to homeless youth

Dedicated purpose for grant: General operations

Grant award: $1,000

Richfield 4th of July Celebration - a community-building event

Dedicated purpose for grant: General operations

Grant award: $1,000

Richfield Environmental Learning Center Fund - a project of the Richfield Middle School

Dedicated purpose for grant: Provide grants to families to defray costs of overnight trip

Grant award: $2,000

Richfield Police Multicultural Advisory Commission - community relations effort

Dedicated purpose for grant: Provide support for Unity in the Community event

Grant award: $2,000

Richfield Arts Commission - City commission that promotes the arts

Dedicated purpose for grant: Purchase pottery wheel and equipment for art center

Grant award: $2,000 

Richfield Baseball Inc. - participatory sports program for youth from ages 4 to 15 years

Dedicated purpose for grant: Outreach to Hispanic community

Grant award: $300

Richfield Girls Basketball Association - participatory sports program for youth

Dedicated purpose for grant: Low income registration fees and equipment

Grant award: $300

Richfield Meals on Wheels - a program delivering meals to low income and elderly residents

Dedicated purpose for grant: General operations

Grant award: $300

The Richfield Foundation is able to give the grants from a portion of donations received during the year and earnings from an endowment.

"Requests for grant money far exceed available funds," Gordon Hanson, marketing director for the Richfield Foundation, said in the release. "We are hoping to build our endowment so we can meet more needs of the community in the future."
