Annual 'Heroes and Helpers' Event Set for Wednesday

This is the fifth year of the event.

Richfield children will team-up with local law enforcement officers to purchase holiday gifts at Target for their families Wednesday night.

The annual event, which was once dubbed "Shop with a Cop," is in its fifth year and has been named the Heroes & Helpers event.

According to a Richfield Public Safety Department release, the event aims to promote a strong community relationship between citizens and public safety officials. The event pairs children and in-need families with police officers as they take a stroll through Richfield's Target store picking out gifts for participants and their families.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. at the Richfield City Hall and Municipal Center, 6700 Portland Ave., where the young participants meet up with police officers and community volunteers. After a short trip to the Target store to shop for gifts, they will return to city hall for gift wrapping and a pizza supper.
