What Businesses Should Come to Lyndale Station?

Tenants for the 19,000-square-foot retail space have yet be announced.

As Richfield's downtown center comes together, there is still plenty of space for new businesses to put down roots—especially at Lyndale Station. Lyndale Station replaced the former Kmart on 66th Street and Lyndale Avenue. The development's anchor tenant, LA Fitness, opened its doors last fall and a 19,000-square-foot retail space has been constructed. The last phase of construction will be a 8,500-square-foot restaurant space. While there are still no tenants announced for the retail or restaurant space, a restaurant is reportedly in lease negotiations now. Read: New Restaurant Coming to Lyndale Station? New Restaurant Coming to Lyndale Station? It's Possible

LA Fitness is the only tenant at this time.

Thousands of retail and restaurant square footage still appear to be up for grabs at Lyndale Station, but that may change soon. The development, which replaced the former Kmart building, is anchored by LA Fitness. The developer, Wellington Management, Inc., has yet to name any other tenants for the adjacent 19,000-square-foot retail building or the future 8,500-square-foot restaurant space. Patch reached out to Lyndale Station property manager Todd Kaufman for details last week. Kaufman was unable to give any, however, he said the company should be able to give some "solid information" in the next few weeks. That information could be details on a new restaurant. According to Joanne Henry, a public relations representative with Henry …

At Best Buy, Sales Down but Profits Better Than Expected

One analyst hailed the Richfield-based retail giant for 'removing oodles of wasteful processes,' but others were more downhearted.

The word was mixed from Best Buy headquarters in Richfield Tuesday as the world's biggest electronics retailer announced earnings for its first fiscal quarter. Reuters reported the bad news/good news story: Best Buy Co Inc reported weak quarterly sales on Tuesday and warned that a slew of investments to entice shoppers could squeeze profits in the near term. The news overshadowed its better-than-expected first-quarter profit and sent shares of the world's largest consumer electronics chain down 4 percent in premarket trading. Fox Business quoted Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly: “This was the result of the Super Bowl shifting into last year’s fourth quarter as well as our decision to reduce sales in certain non-core businesses,” Best Buy CEO …
