Top Christmas Gifts for Siblings You Can Find Locally

The holidays can be a stressful time. Let Patch help you brainstorm ideas for gifts! Siblings: you gotta love 'em. Whether you're young or old, here are some ideas to maintain that brotherly or sisterly love.

It seems like everyone reverts to their kid selves during the holiday season. No matter how old you are, you still find yourself fighting with your brother over the last of the stuffing. There are plenty of gifts in Richfield that are great for siblings.

For a Kid Sister or Brother

If you're younger, get your sibling a pet for which you don’t have to share responsibility. Richfield’s A World of Fish has several fun fishy options for your brother or sister.

According to employee John Rognss, “Fish are colorful pets with very little maintenance compared to a dog or a cat. They have very interesting behavior, and you can study and watch them."

Although they can’t fetch or cuddle, it will keep your sibling company. That way, you don’t have to spend as much time with them.

For Your Sister

Even though you’ve poked fun at the size of your sister’s shoe collection, deep down you know she could always own more. And while that scares you a little bit, do your part this Christmas season by getting her a gift card to Payless Shoe Source. Make sure to compliment her on her new flats, pumps, heels and wedges. If you don’t know what any of those words mean, that’s why you’re getting her a gift card and not attempting to pick out her shoes.

If you're making a stop at Pier 1 Imports for your mom, consider a gift for your sibling, too. Even those with a tight budget will find a thoughtful gift. In-house stylist Aimee Beatty recommnds an ornament.

"Ornaments make a timeless gift, and Pier 1 has so many different styles. Some feature whimsical characters, and others feature elegant details, such as hand-painted glass and intricate detailing," she said. "In addition to being a very affordable gift, choosing just the right ornament can also help you capture a sentimental moment in time."

For Your Brother

Sports Authority is a great Richfield location to go shopping for your brother. If you know what sports he likes or plays, their employees can help with the rest. This will up your chances of hearing and excited, “How did you know I wanted this?” on Christmas morning. If you spring for a ping-pong table, you can challenge him to a match-up after he’s had too much pie.

For Anyone

If you're sick of your sibling stealing your gadgets, get them their own at Best Buy. They have all of the new Apple products, including iPhones, iPods and iPads if you're feeling especially generous. Otherwise its huge selection of movies, music and small electronics, offers affordable, thoughtful options.

Whatever you decide to get your brother or sister, the best gift may be just letting your brother take the rest of the stuffing during dinner. However, you can still put up a good fight.

Offering someone a chance to read is never a bad idea! Another good idea if you're buying for a sibling is a sentimental movie from your childhood. Now that VHS is done with, finding an old movie now on DVD is always a pleaser. A couple years ago my sister gave me Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors. (Our dad introduced us to John Candy at a young age.) It was a very thoughtful present.
