State-Wide 'Community Garden Day' Features Two Richfield Crops

Two Richfield churches' community gardens will be on display for the community to enjoy Aug. 6.

Community Garden Day, formerly known as the Parade of Community Gardens, will feature two Richfield community gardens Aug. 6.

The statewide event is a way to pay tribute to all the volunteer hours community members put in to creating community green spaces , according to the Gardening Matters website, the nonprofit that sponsors the event.

Richfield's Bethany Covenant Church and House of Prayer Lutheran Church are two of the more than 50 garden sites participating in the event from around the state.

"From garden tours to music to potlucks, there is something for everyone [on the day of the event]," Kim Houle of House of Prayer Lutheran Church said in an e-mail to Patch. "This is a great chance to check out the amazing variety of community gardens in Minnesota, as well as get to know other community gardeners."

Both churches will hold tours of their respective gardens Aug. 6 with those who helped plant and grow them:

House of Prayer Lutheran Church

Time: 9 a.m. to noon

Bethany Covenant Church

Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
