Popeyes Chicken Coming Soon to Richfield
The former KFC restaurant will soon become a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
It's official. Richfield will soon be home to a Popeyes restaurant.
Popeyes, the second largest fried chicken chain in the country, acquired 14 bankrupt francise KFC locations in Minnesota—including Richfield's—this past November, despite KFC's attempts to keep them under its brand. A bankruptcy judge cleared the sale of the locations, even though KFC itself backed a higher bid for the Twin Cities restaurants, according to a Star Tribune article.
The remodel of the Richfield location is underway. According to Kelsey Schmitt, a Popeyes communications specialist, the old KFC is being converted and will open in the near future. An exact opening date has not been set. The other 13 restaurants will also be converted soon, if the process is not already underway.
Currently, Popeyes has just one Twin Cities restaurant location on Lake Street in Minneapolis near Uptown. A total of 27 restaurants were part of the $13.8 million acquistion, with the other restaurant outlets being in northern California. Twenty-six will be converted and the other will be sold.
Richfield Patch will update readers as more information on the opening becomes available.
