Menards Hopes for Conditional Permit Approval to Continue Expansion Plans

The Richfield City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Plans for Richfield Menards to expand into a new, two-story superstore will likely see approval Tuesday night from Richfield City Council. Members will vote on whether to grant a conditional use permit to build on the store's current site—the former home of Jun Bo Chinese Restaurant.

New businesses and buildings on sites of two acres and larger are required to have a mix of uses, Richfield City Planner Melissa Poehlman said. While Menards' plans don't meet this requirement, they could also slip through a loophole—developers plan to expand an existing building—that allows council members to approve a permit under these conditions.

Also Tuesday, council members will consider changing some city rules to allow a daycare center to open in the Hub Shopping Center. Annual renewal of liquor licenses are also up for approval, as well as several other rezoning requests.

The council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richfield City Hall and Municipal Center.

Yes that may be. There are plenty of steps developers need to take to get the plans approved and since there is already an existing store, the rep for Menards mentioned in a special session that it takes time to liquidate all the merchandise from the store and find places for many of the employees. Not to mention when it begins to cut off its replenishment orders. I believe this is why they are moving so quickly on the details. Hope this helps.
