Byron Wong, 26, is facing charges of felony assault after attacking an unidentified woman in an apartment laundry room on the 7700 block of Penn Avenue July 17.

According to the criminal complaint, Wong followed the victim down the apartment building hall as she walked to the laundry room. He called to her saying, “Come here. You need to come here … Can you speak any other languages?”

He left her alone for a short time and returned to the laundry room with steak knives. Then he began to flail is arms, attacking the victim with the knives. The woman was able to use a bottle of laundry detergent to push Wong out of her way as she ran screaming from the room. The report said that she suffered a number of slash and stab wounds to her hands and arms and was transported to HCMC.

Wong then barricaded himself in an apartment and when officers arrived he began to squirt them with a Super Soaker water gun, according to the complaint. He then emerged from the apartment with a laptop and backpack, indicating that he was recording/live-streaming the incident. Soon after Police shot Wong several times with beanbag shotgun rounds and eventually took him into custody.

Police later obtained a search warrant for the apartment to see if they could find the knives, blood evidence, guns or proof of his residence there. According to the complaint, Police found the laptop mentioned above, mail for Wong, a cell phone and his driver’s license.

Bail was set on July 19 at $40,000. An article on the Pioneer Press website indicated that the victim was expected to survive her wounds.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by Fedex. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, http://BuzzSave.com

Why such low bail for a dangerously serious charge? The victim easily might have been killed.
