Richfield High School junior and athletic all-star Jessica January was defeated by Farmington's Nadia Lorencz in the 100 meter hurdles event at the state track and field finals Saturday.
January held the state title for two years straight and placed second Saturday with a time of 14.39 seconds.
While January didn't get a third title, she did break the state record in the preliminary race Friday with a first place finish of 14.32 seconds.
The best part? She beat the state record of 14.33 seconds that she set as a freshman.
In addition, Richfield's Obsa Ali, a sophomore, represented the boys team in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs. In the preliminary race Friday, Ali placed second in the 3200 meter behind Wayzata's Joshua Thorson, which would be repeated in the finals Saturday. Ali also placed 12th in the 1600 meter finals.

Congratulations Jessica. You have achieved something others wish they had. You have accomplished much and your only a Junior? And I understand she is a multi-sports person and has achieved excellance in all. Not too many can do that.

Great Job Jessica, these events are not the Best out of three, you have only one chance. And as they say on any given day...... You have certainly moved the bar.
